Ensuring Your Website is Optimized for Search Engines

If you have an attractive website yet no one seems to be visiting, one of the biggest reasons might be because your website needs to be optimized for search engines. Without search engine optimization, search engines like Google and Yahoo can easily bypass your pages when crawling or indexing for search databases.

The Importance of Keywords

You must choose keywords that you can compete in. Beyond your basic keywords, perhaps come up with long tail keywords and phrases that pertain more to what your business is all about. Make sure your content surrounds these keywords and that all articles and pages are written in a natural way.

The Importance of Link Building

Great content and a great website are both no good if you don't have a proper linking strategy set in place. Make sure to place links within your blog and other content pieces that points to relevant pages within your website. Never link out to spammy websites or link farms, as Google will likely punish you for doing so.

The Importance of a Sitemap

Sitemaps are important because search engines use them to browse and index all of your pages. Whenever you create a new page or update an old one, your sitemap will automatically update itself at the same time. Sitemaps are normally visible only to search engines, unless you decide to put a link to it on your homepage.

The Importance of URLs

Your URLs should be easy to understand and should contain the main keyword that you plan on using for that particular page. This will help with your search engine ranking, and those who try to navigate their way through your website.
